16-year-old Premier League star banned for nine months in anti-doping breach
A 16-year-old Premier League player has been banned for nine months after breaching anti-doping rules.
The player was found to be in possession of a pen-type dispenser which contained a growth hormone at 15 years old last July.
And an independent Regulatory Commission, convened by The FA, decided to issue the footballer with the ban which started on August 7 2020 and will end on May 7.
UKAD Director of Operations Pay Myhill said: “Athletes, their parents and the teams they play for, all have a role to play in helping to keep sport clean.
“This case demonstrates that the anti-doping rules apply to all athletes, regardless of age, and serves as an important reminder of the serious consequences that can apply if those rules are broken.
“If you are responsible for a young athlete, you should take a proactive approach to ensure their participation in clean sport and help to protect them from the risks of doping.”
He was charged with use of Somatropin on July 8 last year, which is a breach of the 2019/20 Anti-Doping Regulations.
It is a Growth Hormone, banned under section S2.3 of the WADA 2019 Prohibited List.
And it saw the footballer get charged by The FA in accordance with FA Rules F3 and E25 for breach of Regulations 4(a) and 8(a) of the 2019/20 FA Anti-Doping Regulations.
This comes just weeks after Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana was banned from football for 12 months after failing a drugs test.
Banned substance Furosemide was found in the shot-stopper’s urine following an out-of-competition doping test in October 2020.
