‘A significant boost’: Johnson signs two-year deal with Warriors
Shaun Johnson will return to his former club after being signed by the Warriors on a two-year deal which will see him remain at Mt Smart Stadium until at least the end of 2023.
The signing comes after the Sharks told Johnson his services were no longer needed beyond the 2021 season.

Watene-Zelezniak’s mid-season switch will see him join the club effective immediately. He will remain until 2024.
The Warriors have also recently announced contract extensions for Josh Curran, Bunty Afoa, Jazz Tevaga, Adam Pompey and Rocco Berry alongside long-term contract agreements for Origin rookie Reece Walsh and Melbourne prop Aaron Pene.
Warriors coach Nathan Brown said Johnson’s return was hugely exciting for the club, both on and off the field.
“I know how much our club means to him and we also know how much he will bring to the side with not just his proven ability but also with his experience, leadership and the value he’ll provide as a mentor for our halves,” he said.
Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan said it was the improvement in Johnson’s consistency that led the club to sign him.
“We believe he can help our young players take their games to another level,” he said.
“When we met you could see the passion in his eyes and hear in his voice what returning home means to him.”
