Toto Wolff ‘gives Charles Leclerc the finger’ during meeting at British GP

F1: A lap of the British Grand Prix

Toto Wolff waved his finger at Charles Leclerc in a strange meeting at the British Grand Prix. Wolff wagged his finger at the Ferrari ace while riding an electric scooter with wife Susie alongside.

Leclerc appeared confused by the incident in the Silverstone paddock. But, Wolff’s actions replicate scenes from 12 months ago when Matia Binotto told off the Monegasque after the British GP.

F1 fans saw the funny side with many quick to draw comparisons with last year. Reddit udder PedestalPotato said: “Doing his best Binotto impression for Charles.”

Goldenewbie added: “Charles be like: ‘oh boy, here is that finger again’.” Reddit user Homeownur laughed that the incident could backfire on Wolff after Binotto was sacked from Ferrari ahead of the new season.

They added: “Last time someone raised their finger in front of Charles they were banished from the paddock.” @Disastrous_Animal_34 commented: “Nice of Toto to be so encouraging!”

At last year’s race, Leclerc was left frustrated after Ferrari’s strategy backfired and dealt a blow to his title hopes. Meanwhile, team-mate Carlos Sainz took victory while Ferrari failed to capitalise in the championship on a day Max Verstappen struggled.

Binotto’s finger-wagging came was caught by TV cameras just minutes after the chequered flag. However, Ferrari remained tight-lipped on the incident after the Grand Prix in a bid to cover up rumours of a feud.

Binotto explained: “So when I met him, I knew he was disappointed and what I told him was that he did a fantastic race, once again, because he did a fantastic first lap of the race battling.”

Leclerc added: “I have already said it, and I know that it can create doubt, but he was actually pissed off at me because I was too down, and so he was trying to cheer me up. Everybody was wondering why he was putting the finger like this, but I think he was just frustrated to see me so down after such a great race.

“On the other hand, it’s obviously understandable, he understood my disappointment – leading the race and finishing fourth.”
