Christian Horner confirms Hamilton to Red Bull chats as Verstappen shots fired

F1 teams are beginning to arrive in Hungary ahead of Sunday’s Grand Prix, where Max Verstappen will again be the heavy favourite. The Dutchman has won eight of the opening 10 races, with his team-mate Sergio Perez picking up the remaining two.

Red Bull have a huge advantage at the top of the standings and Verstappen can finish second in every race this season and the world title would still be secured. Such is their comfortable lead, the Austrian team have already switched their focus to the 2024 car.

“Fortunately we turned up with a competitive package at the start of the season,” Christian Horner said. “Otherwise it would have been a nightmare for us with the restrictions.

“We have to choose carefully what we are actually testing and bringing. A lot of resources have already been shifted to next year’s car.”

Verstappen shots fired

Austrian outlet Kurier claim Nyck de Vries has accused Max Verstappen of “stealing” the 2021 world title off Lewis Hamilton.

The newspaper say De Vries told them he is “not surprised by the way” after Red Bull brutally sacked him from AlphaTauri after just 10 races.

Horner on Hamilton chats

Christian Horner has confirmed that he has previously held talks with Lewis Hamilton over the possibility of him joining Red Bull.

“Lewis is obviously a great driver. Hopefully, he’ll be around for many years to come,” he said.

“There’s been a couple of occasions in history that we’ve had a couple of conversations about the possibility of joining Red Bull, but that’s not been anytime recently.”

However, Horner admitted that he would never be able to keep Max Verstappen if he made a move for the Mercedes man.

“It’s nothing that we’ve ever considered in the recent past,” he added. “Obviously, to pay for those two drivers in itself, we would probably have to sell the factory!”
