Cara Delevigne F1 controversy sparks calls for 'ignorant' celeb ban

Following the incident with Cara Delevingne and Martin Brundle at the British Grand Prix, there have been calls for Formula One to re-think their policy on allowing celebrities onto the grid.

In the build-up to Sunday’s race at Silverstone, supermodel Delevingne came under fire for refusing to talk to Sky Sports pundit Brundle.

Brundle’s pre-race grid walks are a well-known tradition and much-enjoyed part of a grand prix weekend where the former racer and legendary pundit interviews drivers, team bosses and famous faces.

In recent years however they have garnered widespread attention after a number of infamous incidents of celebrities refusing to talk.

F1 fans have been vocal in their criticism of this, with the sport’s organisers introducing the ‘Brundle clause’ after the pundit was rudely shoved away by Megan Thee Stallion’s bodyguards and entourage at the 2021 USA Grand Prix.

The rule states that celebrities who are invited onto the starting grid are not allowed to bring their security with them, and although they are not obliged to speak to the media, they are advised and encouraged to do so.

Delevingne is not the first person to have blatantly ignored this rule, and as such some fans believe changes should be made.
