Axed Sky pundit Johnny Herbert receives new backing after ‘belting barnet’ post

F1 pundit Johnny Herbert received fresh messages of support from fans after being axed by Sky Sports as he posted a retro snap from his early racing days.

Ahead of the 2023 season, Herbert, who had been part of Sky’s F1 coverage since it picked up the rights in 2012, has been let go by the broadcaster. Another ex-F1 racer, Paul di Resta, has also been released by Sky, who are not expected to replace either pundit.

However, Herbert intends to stay involved with the sport and is planning to attend the Monaco Grand Prix and the British Grand Prix, as well as the Le Mans 24-Hour race.

Herbert has made little public comment about his Sky exit, aside from posting a picture of the Sky F1 team with the words, “Going to miss this team.”

Since then, Herbert has been entertaining his 7,000 followers on Instagram with blasts from the past. One picture posted this week was from his Formula 3 days in 1987, a year before he suffered career-threatening leg injuries in a Formula 3000 race at Brands Hatch.
