The impending exit of Aaron Rodgers is set to mark a new era at the Green Bay Packers – with a new starting quarterback not the only change at Lambeau Field. Four-time MVP Rodgers’ inevitable departure is also expected to impact ticket prices for the iconic NFL franchise.

Veteran Rodgers declared his intention to join the New York Jets in a bombshell interview with Pat McAfee last week. Speaking for the first-time since the highly-publicised stint at a retreat used to contemplate his future, the 39-year-old clarified mounting speculation by confirming his desire to join the Jets, rather than opt for retirement.

A trade between the Packers and the Jets does not yet appear at an advanced stage, as Rodgers and his franchise look to agree on an exit strategy that would suit all parties. But the one relative certainty is that Rodgers will not be taking to the field in a Green Bay jersey in Wisconsin next season.

And his replacement quarterback Jordan Love, while a hugely promising young talent, is nowhere near the same draw for NFL fans. That has led Kyle Zorn, a brand manager for secondary ticket marketplace TickPick, to predict that the absence of Rodgers will coincide with a dramatic 10 percent fall in ticket sales at Lambeau Field.

Zorn is not concerned about a lack of interest in Green Bay matches, with 140,000 fans still on the season ticket waiting list, but expects more affordable tickets for other home supporters and away fans on the secondary market.

“The demand will always be there,” Zorn explained to the Green Bay Press Gazette. “Every single year the Packers are in the top 10. Last year, they were the third-most expensive ticket. The Tampa Bay Bucs were No. 2 and the Las Vegas Raiders No. 1.” He added: “There’s only been such a small sample size with Jordan Love. Winning is always the biggest variable for prices going up and down in a single season.”

The Packers are set to learn their NFL schedule for the new season in May, but Rodgers’ exit will not be the only factor that determines ticket prices for the upcoming campaign. A strong start to the season for Love would ramp up interest, therefore increasing ticket prices.

Intense rivalries, such as the Packers vs the Chicago Bears, will render Rodgers’ departure as irrelevant on the secondary ticket market, due to obvious high demand because of ease of travel and the historic status of the fixture.

It is also suggested that ticket prices – ranging from $128 to $165 – will be impacted by the interest from broadcasters in selecting the Packers for prime-time night games. It is expected that without the draw of Rodgers, there will be less evening games and therefore more expensive tickets.

That is because passionate fans travelling large distances will find it easier to attend noon or afternoon games rather than the blockbuster night time clashes. The looming exit of Rodgers to the Jets is almost certainly set to impact matchgoers in the stands as well as the Packers roster at Lambeau Field.
