Kevin James playing Saints’ Sean Payton in Neflix’s ‘Home Team’ will probably really confuse you
From the big city to the bayou, Kevin James has range.
Football movies are pretty rare, and good football movies are more difficult to find than a Giants offensive touchdown in 2021. That said, Netflix is going to try to buck the trend with “Home Team,” a movie surrounding Sean Payton’s year away from the NFL when he was suspended in 2012.
The biggest twist, though, is who is playing Payton, and that’s actor and comedian Kevin James. That’s right, the dude from “King of Queens” is playing the Saints head coach.
If you’re having as much of a hard time picturing that as we did, here’s the trailer for the movie:
The flick follows Payton’s life away from the NFL during his yearlong suspension in 2012 stemming from the Saints’ BountyGate scandal, when he coached his son’s sixth-grade football team. Taylor Lautner, of “Twilight” fame, also stars in the movie, as well as Rob Schneider.
James isn’t a stranger to sports, after all: He’s a diehard Mets, Jets and Knicks fan and has starred in “Here Comes the Boom,” a movie about a teacher-turned-MMA fighter trying to save the job of a music teacher at the school.
The movie is being produced by Adam Sandler and hits the small screen on Jan. 28.
Seems like Frankie Muniz really missed out on this role.
