Lampard's position at Chelsea is in DANGER, admits ex-team-mate Gallas

Frank Lampard’s position at Chelsea IS in danger, claims William Gallas and manager’s old Stamford Bridge team-mate urges him to ‘find a solution quickly’ after £240m summer splurge

  • Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is under pressure after a string of poor results
  • The Blues were tipped to be title challengers after spending £240m this summer
  • But the team have struggled recently and find themselves near mid-table

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is in ‘a dangerous position’ after overseeing some poor recent form, admits his former Blues team-mate William Gallas.

Lampard is under fire after watching the team slip down to ninth in the Premier League table, despite many bookmakers making his side one of the favourites to lift the title after a £240million summer spree.

Big name players like Timo Werner and Kai Havertz arrived to bring optimism that Chelsea could return to their glory days under the club icon, but those signings are yet to pay off and one win in their last six games has instead made Lampard look certain to be axed.

Frank Lampard’s position at Chelsea is ‘in danger’, according to ex-Blues star William Gallas (R)

Gallas, who spent five years at Chelsea and joined the club in the same year as Lampard, feels the 42-year-old is in ‘danger’ given how much the club spent on transfers and believes the board won’t be too pleased.

‘I think Lampard’s position is in danger,’ he told PlayOjo. ‘He’s not in a good position right now as they’re not in the top three at the moment.

‘They spent a lot of money so the board want to see Chelsea winning the Premier League. I thought this season that they had a great chance to win it, but at the moment I’m sure the board aren’t happy with the results which is why I’m sure Frank is in a dangerous position. He needs to try and finish in the top three or win the Premier League.

Chelsea have just one win in their last six games despite a pre-season label as title favourites

Gallas played alongside Lampard for five years and feels he needs to ‘find a solution quickly’

‘When you spend almost £250m on players, that means you want to win the Premier League and the moment Chelsea’s position isn’t good. They’re not performing against the big clubs.’

A dismal 3-1 loss to Manchester City was particularly concerning for Chelsea last time out and the team previously suffered a morale-denting 3-1 defeat to London rivals Arsenal, who had been struggling in the bottom half of the table.

Gallas, who made 225 outings for the club and won three trophies alongside Lampard, urged him to ‘find a solution quickly’ and added that the boss has not yet found the right set-up to suit his new players.

Gallas believes Lampard should tinker with his team and has not yet found the right system

Chelsea spent £240m on the likes of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner but they are yet to sparkle

Werner, signed for £53m, has struggled to score goals, while £71m Havertz looks like he needs more time to adapt to life in England. Lampard also brought in centre-back Thiago Silva on a free transfer, Ben Chilwell from Leicester and Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.

‘The pressure is on Frank and he needs to find the solution very quickly because as we know, when you are the manager of Chelsea you can be sacked very quickly,’ he added. ‘The pressure is on him and he has to find the right system.

‘They bought Werner for a lot of money, which is why perhaps Frank is playing him in every game, but if the player isn’t showing the quality, maybe they have to change the players in the team.

‘I hope Frank finds the solution as soon as possible because he’s a young manager, but I’m sure he will be a great manager in the future. He’s very passionate and he knows football very well.’

Chelsea face a must-win trip to Fulham on Saturday, and failure to do so will leave Lampard’s future in serious doubt given the club’s tendancy to sack managers early in the season when things aren’t going well.
