Tennis lag Boris Becker has phoned mum just once since being sent to jail

Boris Becker's heartbroken mum has revealed the tennis ace has only called her once since he was jailed earlier this year.

Becker was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail at London’s Southwark crown court for fraudulently hiding £2.5million after declaring bankruptcy. The German is currently at the low-security Huntercombe prison in Oxfordshire – having been moved from London’s Wandsworth jail.

According to The Sun, Elvira Becker, 87, has only received one call from her son since he was put behind bars. That call came on Mother's Day – which is in May in Germany – and she relies on Becker's girlfriend Lilian de Carvalho for news.

Elvira is quoted in The Sun saying: “I can no longer fly to Boris, I can’t visit him in prison. That makes me sad, but it can’t be helped. I had a fracture of the femur (thigh bone).

"I need a crutch or walker to help me walk. Boris called me once while in prison.

"It was for Mother’s Day. He said everything was fine and I shouldn’t worry about him.”

Becker was jailed in April, and Judge Deborah Taylor said he had shown no remorse or acceptance.

She said: "You did not heed the warning you were given and the chance you were given by the suspended sentence and that is a significant aggravating factor…

"You have… sought to distance yourself from your offending and your bankruptcy. While I accept your humiliation as part of the proceedings, there has been no humility."
