Ryan Reynolds is facing an ‘aggressive’ rival bid from music legend Snoop Dogg, with the pair both interested in buying NHL team Ottawa Senators. Taking to Instagram on Monday, Snoop stated his intent to become a part-owner in the Senators in a bid alongside film producer Neko Sparks.

Posting on Instagram the rapper – whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr – wrote: “Amazing what @neko_sparks is trying to do in Ottawa & I’m looking forward to being apart of that ownership team. I WANNA BRING HOCKEY TO OUR COMMUNITY”

According to The Athletic, Snoop Dogg is in an ‘aggressive pursuit’ to claim ownership, with a source close to the rapper claiming: “He’s [Snoop Dogg] coming up with ideas. And he’s legitimately excited… He wants this team.”

The 51-year-old is said to have a strong passion for the game according to NHL executive vice president Steve Mayer. Mayer told Deadline: “One of the things we noticed when Snoop came to our All-Star game a couple of years ago in Los Angeles was not only is he Snoop and everybody loves him, but he really loves hockey,”

“He knows the players, he knows the game, and we started talking back then about how he feels like he can help promote the game.” Snoop is not the only mega-star hoping to get his hands on the Senators though.

Per the Ottawa Sun, Hollywood star and Wrexham owner Reynolds is also said to be ‘prepping’ a bid for the NHL setup alongside the Remington Group. Their bid is said to be more than $1million, with the hope of acquiring both the Senators and their home arena the Canadian Tire Centre.

Reynolds purchased Wrexham alongside fellow actor Rob McElhenney back in November 2020. The Welsh side recently achieved promotion back to the Football League, after securing the Vanarama National League title with a win over Boreham Wood to cap off a record-breaking campaign.
