Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum was left battered from a bare-knuckle MMA match on Friday.

Facing Junior Dos Santos – also a former UFC heavyweight champ – in Jacksonville, Florida, both of Werdum’s eyes were bloodied during the fight.

But it was his left eye in particular that got badly damaged, as play-by-play broadcaster Sean Wheelock couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

‘The eyelid is falling off. The eyelid is literally torn open,’ Wheelock said.

‘If it wasn’t for the blood he could see right through that eyelid.’

Werdum lost to Junior Dos Santos by split decision at MMA event Gamebread Bareknuckle 5

Based on the damage Dos Santos inflicted upon him, it won’t come as a massive surprise that Werdum lost the fight via split decision.

However, the Brazilian had nothing but positive things to say about bare-knuckle fighting after the match.

‘That was my first time [fighting bare-knuckle MMA] and I loved it, that was amazing,’ he said, according to MMA Fighting.

‘I feel good. Feeling a little sore but I think that’s OK. I’m fighting someone who was really well-prepared. Everybody knows the legend that he is.’

Werdum, 46 years old, last fought in the UFC in 2020.
