Raceday focus: Best bets, analysis for Bendigo on Thursday

Herald Sun form analyst Gilbert Gardiner runs the rule over the Thursday meeting at Bendigo.

BEST BET

MILES AHEAD (R2 No.5 – $2)

Just missed last start at Swan Hill to remain a six-start maiden but the way the gelding finished off suggests a win is not too far away. Blinkers on and drawn perfectly for jockey John Allen.

NEXT BEST

HOSIER (R5 No.2 – $1.50)

Very short so not necessarily a betting proposition for casual punters but certainly worth watching with an eye on the spring. Won by 5½ lengths at Bendigo on June 5 – the Camelot gelding’s Australian debut.

DANCING DUCK (R6 No.11 – $6.50)

Went 27 starts without a win then gone bang, bang with strong performances at Swan Hill and Wangaratta. Up in class but gets in light as a consequence and worth following.

VALUE BET

FESTIVUS (R3 No.14 – $12)

Expensive two-year-old Teofilo colt ($250,000) making debut against the older horses. Stable striking form of late and Luke Currie booking a sign of intent.

THE JOCKEY

JOHN ALLEN

12-time Group 1 winner has been consistently dominant on the provincial circuit this season.

MOON AND BACK (R1 No.8 – $4.20), MILES AHEAD (R2 No.5 – $2), MR BRIGHTSIDE (R3 No.15 – $2.80), UNDER THE TASSELS (R4 No.11 – $4.20), FURIOSO (R6 No.7 – $5), REAL GUN (R7 No.8 – $3.10) and MY DIVAS (R8 No.12 – $7.50)
