Horse racing tips, best bets for Gosford, Caulfield and Gold Coast
Our experts give you an early shot at finding a winner in the major races this weekend.
Last week … One winners. Clinton Payne flew the flag for the team after tipping Sweat Deal ($2.80) at Hawkesbury.
Saturday: GOSFORD (9 races, start 11.45am), GOLD COAST (9 races, 11.25am), MORPHETTVILLE (9 races, 11.40am), CAULFIELD (9 races, 11.55am), ASCOT (9 races, 2.19pm).
GOSFORD
RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph) Form: 52812
BLESK (Race 4, No.6 — $3.40)
Blesk did get all the favours when burst through along the rails to score with authority at Warwick Farm then got well back from a wide barrier and was doing his best work on the line when fifth at Canterbury. His soft track form is very good, back out to 1600m is ideal and this race suits. Hard to beat.
Value bet: JAHBATH (Race 3, No.11 — $5)
MATT JONES (Daily Telegraph) Form: 41254
APRIL RAIN (Race 9, No.1 — $2.40)
She’s a very talented mare with just won defeat at her first start and she should be able to sit back then swoop home over the top of them late.
Value bet: OUR BAMBINO (Race 5, No.8 — $9)
CLINTON PAYNE (Racenet) Form: 35421
AVION FURY (Race 5, No.9 — $6.50)
Since winning impressively at Canterbury four back then deep ended him into Group races where he performed outstandingly for a benchmark 60 horse then last time out he had no luck when better placed back at the midweek and it was a hidden run. Lobs here for a moderate off season benchmark 78, gets Kerrin McEvoy and favourable draw. Shouldn’t be any better than a $4 chance.
Value bet: ONLY WORDS (Gold Coast, Race 6, No.6 — $12)
Parry Sound is ready to peak third-up at Gosford. Photo: Grant GuySource:The Daily Telegraph
JETT HATTON (Racenet) Form: 14544
PARRY SOUND (Race 5, No.1 — $4.60)
He ticks plenty of boxes for this. Peak fitness third-up, out to his preferred trip and a rain affected track – will be hard to roll.
Value bet: ALL HALLOWS’ EVE (Race 8, No.10 — $16)
MITCH COHEN (Racenet) Form: x726
APRIL RAIN (Race 8, No. 1 — $2.40)
Expecting this progressive Chris Waller-trained mare to continue on winning ways first up. April Rain put together a hat-trick of metropolitan wins at the back end of summer and is destined for bigger things in the coming months. Happy to be on in a very winnable race on Saturday.
Value bet: BRADENBURG (Race 8, No. 2 — $9.00)
LATEST BETTING: TAB FIXED ODDS
CAULFIELD
BRAD WATERS (Racenet) Form: 013×3
REDWOOD SHADOW (Race 7, No.2 — $4.20)
Promising staying type that gets out to 2000m for the first time this preparation at Caulfield on Saturday. The stable has gone for blinkers on the three-year-old, which could do the trick.
Value bet: SAVIGNE (Race 3, No.3 — $7.50)
CHRIS VERNUCCIO (NewsRacing) Form: 13×72
HORRIFYING (Race 7, No. 1 — $2.70)
Had too much ground to make up from a wide barrier at Flemington last start. From barrier six Jamie Kah can settle closer in the run.
Value bet: NIMALEE (Gosford, Race 8, No. 1 — $6.50)
GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun) Form: 738162
EXCELMAN (Race 2, No.10 — $2.00)
Knocking on the door and can break through with Jamie Kah aboard after some recent good performances.
Value bet: BLAZEJOWSKI (Race 6, No.1 — $4)
Blazejowski can resume with a win at Caulfield on Saturday. Photo: Vince Caligiuri/AAP ImageSource:AAP
SIMON MOY (NewsRacing) Form: 74140
BLAZEJOWSKI (Race 6, No.1 — $4.00)
Gets perfect conditions and has solid form when fresh, despite draw being a negative.
Value bet: MOZZIE MONSTER (Race 8, No.2 — $5.00)
NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 31244
HORRIFYING (Race 7, No.1 — $2.70)
Much better than his record of one win from nice attempts would suggest. Broke his maiden strongly at Sandown two starts with the blinkers were applied and lost no admirers last start when just pipped at Flemington. Will be worth sticking with as he races through the grades.
Value bet: I COULD DO BETTER (Gold Coast, Race 1, No.8 — $6)
LATEST BETTING: TAB FIXED ODDS
GOLD COAST
DARREN PRENDERGAST (NewsRacing) Form: 74224
RANCH HAND (Race 5, No.4 — $3.10)
Talented colt from the Chris Waller yard returns to the Gold Coast after finishing fifth in the MM 2YO Classic. Won a recent trial with James McDonald aboard, and sticks with him here.
Value bet: HOMESMAN (Race 8, No.3 — $11)
NATHAN EXELBY (Sky Racing). Form: x1115
Box Quinella: FIFTY STARS, AVILIUS, ZAAKI (Race 8)
This is one of the best races we have seen in Queensland for many years, certainly in terms of depth. There’s plenty of chances, but each of these runners make strong appeal off excellent recent form and an ability to handle soft ground. At current prices, they look a worthy gamble of providing a decent quinella result.
Value bet: SIGNORA NRA (Race 6, No.13 — $7.50)
