Pedersen wins stage 13 Tour de France sprint, Vingegaard retains yellow

Dane Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) has pipped Fred Wright (Bahrain Victorious) and Hugo Houle (Israel-Premier Tech) to claim stage 13 of the Tour de France – a long, hot stretch from the mountains of Le Bourg d’Oisans to Saint-Etienne.

Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo–Visma) retained the overall leader’s yellow jersey.

Prior to the start, the Tour lost another rider as French climber Warren Barguil was forced out after testing positive for COVID-19.

Barguil’s Arkea-Samsic team said in a statement ahead of Friday’s stage that his seven teammates all tested negative.

It’s the second straight year that Barguil, who injured his right hip and shoulder in a crash on Thursday, has abandoned the three-week race. He was 24th in the general classification, nearly 43 minutes behind race leader Vingegaard.
