Sky Sports strike four-year deals with promoters Top Rank and BOXXER to usher in new era of boxing after their long partnership with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom ended this year

  • Sky Sports have agreed four-year deals with promoters Top Rank and BOXXER
  • The broadcaster’s long partnership with Eddie Hearn ended earlier this year
  • It left Sky’s future in the sport uncertain before teaming up with new promoters

Josh Taylor, Chris Eubank Jnr, Vasiliy Lomachenko and Savannah Marshall will spearhead a new era of boxing on Sky Sports after the broadcaster struck a deal with promoters Top Rank and BOXXER.

The broadcaster’s long partnership with Eddie Hearn ended earlier this year, with the Matchroom chief taking his stable to DAZN.

That deal left Sky’s future in the sport uncertain but this week they announced four-year partnerships with promoters from either side of the Atlantic.

Top Rank work with some of the sport’s finest fighters, including Lomachenko, Scotland’s undisputed 140lb champion Taylor and unified lightweight king Teofimo Lopez.

Boxxer, meanwhile, have struck deals with a number of British fighters.

They include heavyweight Hughie Fury, Eubank Jnr, WBO middleweight champion Marshall and GB Olympian Caroline Dubois, while two-weight world champion Claressa Shields will fight on the channel, too.

Later this month Sky will also show Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight clash with Oleksandr Usyk, with the broadcaster hopeful of extending their deal with the unified world champion.

Joshua’s September 25 clash with Usyk is the last fight on his existing partnership with Sky – who have shown all 25 of AJ’s professional fights.

But Sky’s head of boxing development Adam Smith said: ‘We’ve had a wonderful journey with AJ we have been with him every step of the way… we are very hopeful we can continue our relationship well into the future.’

After Joshua-Usyk, the new era with BOXXER will begin with Eubank Jr against Sven Elbir on October 2.

Marshall will defend her title against Lolita Muzeya two weeks later, with Taylor facing British rival Jack Catterall in December.
