Floyd Mayweather puts his legacy on the line in an eight-round exhibition event against YouTuber-turned boxer Logan Paul on Sunday night: Everything to know ahead of the fight

  • Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul square off on Sunday night in Miami
  • The eight-round exhibition event will have no official winner crowned
  • Both will wear 10oz gloves and no headgear, while knockouts are allowed
  • Logan’s brother Jake has also agreed to fight Tyron Woodley on August 28

Floyd Mayweather makes his return to the ring on Sunday night as he takes on YouTuber-turned boxer Logan Paul in an eight-round exhibition event.

The undefeated American, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame last year, has not fought since a first-round stoppage win over Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018, again in an exhibition fight.

Now aged 44, the 12-time world champion takes on Paul, who  has lost his one and only professional outing to fellow YouTuber KSI in 2019.

The fight was initially scheduled to take place in February, but it was pushed back due to the coronavirus restrictions in place at the time.

Mayweather has repeatedly insisted the bout is merely ‘entertainment’, but animosity is now running high after a heated clash at the pre-fight press conference with Paul’s brother Jake, who is set to fight UFC star Tyron Woodley in his fourth professional fight in August.

And while the rules dictate there will not be an official winner, the score will finally be settled on Sunday night, or the early hours of Monday morning for those from the United Kingdom.

With the spectacle now swiftly approaching, Sportsmail takes you through everything you need to know.

The exhibition clash between Mayweather and Paul is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 6 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida – home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.

The pair are expected to walk to the ring at around 4am BST, though that of course will depend on results beforehand.

However, there is also an abundance of action on the undercard, which gets underway at midnight, with the likes of Badou Jack in action.

How to watch the fight

With Mayweather and Paul involved, it comes as no surprise that this is a pay-per-view event.

The fight will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Box Office, with a cost of £16.95 to purchase.

Those who buy the action will also be able to stream the event online via the Sky Sports Box Office app, player and website.

For those in America, you can watch the fight on Showtime pay-per-view for $49.95, with the bout available on Showtime.com and Fanmio.com.

Sportsmail will also be running a live blog, so you can keep up-to-date with us.

What are the rules?

The rules for Sunday night’s exhibition clash have caused some unrest among the fans, with the Florida State Boxing Commission confirming no official winner will be declared.

There will be no judges, but there can be a knockout – which will be determined by the referee.

That eventuality will be aided by the fact neither men will wear head guards, while they have agreed to reduce the proposed 12oz gloves to 10 ounces.

Should it go the distance, the fight will last eight three-minute rounds.

The lack of an official winner is understandably frustrating, but it’s worth noting that the same stipulation was in place for Mayweather’s last exhibition against Tenshin Nasukawa, where he won by knockout in a solitary round.

What’s been said?

Mayweather clashed with Jake Paul during a heated pre-fight press conference

As stated, there has been plenty of animosity in the build-up to the blockbuster event, particularly between Mayweather and Jake Paul.

At the pre-fight press conference, Mayweather insisted he would fight both Paul brothers in one night, before eventually exchanging a war of words with Jake.

There, the young American grabbed Mayweather’s hat, which resulted in a heated brawl, with Paul ending up with a black eye.

In terms of Logan, he has repeatedly insisted he is not fighting a prime Mayweather, but a shadow of his former self.

‘I’m 30 lbs heavier, half his age, a foot taller and I work my ass off so I don’t know, anything could happen,’ he said on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

‘My whole life has been overcoming challenges, exceeding expectations, surprising people and doing what ‘could not be done’ and this doesn’t feel any different to me.

‘I’ve never been intimidated by Floyd or anyone, so I think I stand a chance – you’d be lying if you said it was impossible, he’s human, it’s a fight and anything can happen.

He added: ‘People ask the question ‘why would I fight Floyd Mayweather?’ It’s because my kids’ kids will talk about this.’

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the fight, Paul also said: ‘I’ve seen it all. I’ve seen it all in here.

‘All I do is visualise. I know what I have to do, I know what it’s going to look like, standing across from Floyd, looking in his eyes.

‘He’s going to be smiling, I’m sure. Taunting me a little bit. I’ve seen it, all of it.’

Meanwhile, Mayweather has described the event as a ‘legalised bank robery’.

‘My nickname is Money for a reason,’ he said on the ‘Inside Mayweather vs Paul’ show.

‘I worked extremely hard for years and years to get to a certain level. A level where we can start calling everything an event. I believe in working smarter, not harder.

‘So if it’s something easy like [the Paul fight], a legalised bank robbery, I gotta do it. I have to do it.’
