Tokyo Olympics LIVE: Yafai wins boxing gold as Daley makes diving final

It’s the penultimate day of the Olympics with another 34 medals up for grabs.

Friday was another brilliant day for Team GB with golds in the women’s Madison and in the Modern Pentathlon.

GB sit in fourth in the medal tables having won 18 golds, 20 silvers and 20 bronzes to sit ahead of the Russian Olympic Committee with just two days of events left.

If Friday was all about Laura Kenny and her quest for gold at a third straight games, Saturday could be a huge day for Tom Daley.

The 28-year-old finally tasted success in the synchro, but today’s individual 10m platform probably marks his final chance to claim gold as a sole competitor.

Galal Yafai became GB’s first gold medal winner of the Tokyo Games in the boxing, beating Carlo Paalam in the final of the men’s flyweight competition.

Back in the velodrome, Jason Kenny and Jack Carlin start their keirin campaign, while Katy Marchant goes in the women’s sprint.

There will be action all over Tokyo and we’ll have everything, as it happens right here:

Yafai delivers Team GB’s first boxing gold at Tokyo in style

Galal Yafai delivered British boxing's first gold medal at Tokyo 2020 when he outpointed Philippines flyweight Carlo Paalam 4-1 on the judges' scorecards, writes Mike Walters.

Despite their best medal haul for 101 years – six in all – Team GB's contingent from the noble art had not managed to turn any of their precious metals into gold.

But Yafai, a dynamic and waspish competitor from a famous fighting family, hit the podium summit with a superb display.

He put Paalam on the deck with a brilliant combination midway through the first round to take charge.

The Filipino refused to come quietly, and was warned for excessive use of the head in the second, but Yafai came safely through the decider to clinch Team GB's 19th gold of the Games, equalling their haul from Beijing 13 years ago.
