Lenin Castillo was taken out of the ring on a stretcher after being brutally knocked out by Callum Smith on the undercard of Anthony Joshua's clash with Oleksandr Usyk.

Smith wiped out the Dominican light-heavyweight with a devastating right hand in the second round of their bout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night,

There were worrying signs when Castillo was sent tumbling to the canvas, with his legs twitching in alarming fashion before the referee and medics intervened.

After receiving treatment in the ring, he left the ring on a stretcher and was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital.

Thankfully Eddie Hearn has provided a positive update about Castillo, who was said to be conscious while making his way to hospital.

The Matchroom chief posted on Twitter after the fight: "A horrible brutal knockout. Castillo is responsive and on his way to hospital".

Castillo was an underdog heading into his bout with Smith, a former world champion down at super-middleweight.

The Liverpool fighter was making his debut at 175lbs, having moved up after his defeat against Canelo Alvarez last year.

He did so on the undercard of Joshua's crucial unified heavyweight title defence against Usyk, who is widely considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet.
