Callum Smith delivered a brutal one-punch knockout on his light-heavyweight debut to dispatch the Dominican Lenin Castillo in just the second round. Smith’s opponent received prolonged medical assistance after the knockout and had to be stretchered out of the ring.

Smith, the esteemed Liverpudlian fighter who has fought figures like Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and George Groves, was making his debut at light-heavyweight.

He previously held the WBA world title in the super-middleweight division after defeating Groves in the final of the World Boxing Super Series.

His debut in the higher weight class was emphatic, although it sparked concern around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Castillo took a hard fall.

The 33-year-old received medical assistance in the ring before being stretchered off and taken to hospital.

Pundits at ringside were equally concerned.

“A lot of people think there is pain and anger between fighters, but most of the time it’s business,” said Chris Eubank Jr.

“You want him to get back out afterwards, you don’t want him to get taken off on a stretcher.

“Hopefully he’s alright in the morning, but this is boxing.”
