Jake Paul makes U-turn on plan to take year-long break from boxing

Jake Paul is hoping to stay active next year, despite saying he was planning to take time away from the sport for a year.

The YouTube star will have his fourth fight in just over a year on December 18 when he faces Tyron Woodley in a rematch of their August meeting, and he wants to have similar activity in 2022.

Paul told the Bill Simons podcast earlier this year: "I think genuinely I am going to take some time off.

"I said I was going to take some time off after the Woodley fight but I felt good and wanted to go again.

"It has been non-stop, I haven't been on vacation since I moved to Los Angeles so I feel like I am finally at a spot to do that and spend some time chilling.

"Who knows I may fight at the end of the year if there is an opponent lined up, but I am going to get back into the long-term business plan as it is impossible to manage during a training camp."

But he has back-tracked on that idea, telling FightHype that he plans to stay as active in 2022, after taking a brief holiday, as he was in 2021.

Paul was forced out of the ring for 10 months by the coronavirus pandemic after making his professional debut in January of last year, but has since been in the ring three times, first facing Nate Robinson in late November 2020.

He then fought Ben Askren and Woodley in April and August of this year, and will now rematch the former UFC champion after Tommy Fury pulled out of their scheduled bout for next week.

"We'll see, but I'd like to be as active," Paul said of his plans for the next year after his Woodley rematch.

"I'm definitely going to take a vacation, I haven't been on vacation since I was like 17-years-old.

"So I'm going to take some time off and just chill for sure, but I would like to get back into the ring, the best way to be in this sport is to stay active.

"So I'm just going to go to the drawing board and see what makes the most sense."

Paul will have no shortage of prospective opponents for the next year, assuming he can go 5-0 by once again beating Woodley.

Fury is expected to return to action by March, which could mean a rescheduling early next year.

And Mirror Fighting understands that there are tentative plans in place for Nate Diaz to square off with Paul once his UFC contract is over after his next fight.

Our sources indicate that Diaz, and his brother Nick, will look to put together a super-card in the second half of next year with the elder brother facing Logan Paul in the co-main event.
