Tyson Fury’s brother Shane has revealed that he and Tyson disagree over Oleksandr Usyk and that the Gypsy King plans to fight a mid-level ‘run out’ opponent on December 3 if the Anthony Joshua bout cannot be made. Shane isn’t confident that the all-British showdown will take place and has confirmed that they have alternative plans in place if worst comes to worst.

Fury and Joshua are set to face each other on December 3 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, however, despite the final contracts being sent over to AJ’s camp last week, the Manchester heavyweight claims that Joshua’s paperwork still hasn’t been received.

Growing impatient, he declared in a recent video uploaded to social media that he will fight on the proposed date against a new opponent if AJ fails to close the deal in time. Now, Shane has given further hints as to who that could be.

Speaking to iFL TV, he said: “If I was to put money on it now to say if it was happening because I’m Mr negative, I’d would say not. If it was going to happen, I think it should have happened because it’s nine weeks Saturday. You know, the fighters need for one to get their mindset right to go into camp. Nine weeks is more than enough but we need to know. It can’t drag on and drag on.

“But Tyson’s fighting on December 3 if it’s Joshua or if it’s someone else but if it’s not Joshua we ain’t willing to roll the dice with some big dangerous heavyweight for no money so it’s going to be a run out for the unification fight next year.”

The most likely opponent is Mahmoud Charr, who was recently involved in a back-and-forth exchange on Instagram with Fury and fits the bill of a ‘run out’ opponent. The German fought for the WBC title in 2012 against Vitali Klitschko but was comfortably dispatched in the fourth round. Charr currently holds a 33-4 record and has lost every time he has stepped up to world level.

Regardless of who the next opponent is, Fury still has one eye on the undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk in the first quarter of 2023. The pair were supposed to face each next but with the Ukrainian out until early next year, Fury approached Joshua instead.

Fury has long written off Usyk as a ‘blown up middleweight’ but Shane admits he is the only member of his family that rates The Cat.

“Usyk for me, would be a champion in any era, I am the only one in my family that actually rates Usyk, and I could see him beating a lot of champions in the past, but Tyson is all wrong [for him]. When I say styles make fights, Tyson is all wrong for Usyk.

“Tyson can beat Usyk with the jab as the boxer, slipping, sliding but if all that fails Tyson can fight for all twelve rounds from the first bell to the last bell flat out. And if he can’t do that with a fridge in front of him – Tyson’s 19-stone, you’re in trouble.”
