Jermell Charlo’s wife, Chyane Westbrook, reportedly filed for divorce and a temporary restraining order against the decorated boxer on Tuesday – one day before DailyMail.com revealed his mysterious December 16 arrest for allegedly assaulting a family member.
Details of Charlo’s arrest remain unclear and the victim of the alleged assault has not been identified publicly by police. Fort Bend, Texas police did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for further information.
ESPN reported Wednesday that Westbrook has filed from divorce from Charlo while seeking a temporary restraining order against him.
Attorney Kent A. Schaffer, who previously represented Charlo in another case in Fort Bend, and spokespeople for the fighter’s promoter, PBC, both declined to comment on the matter to DailyMail.com.
He was previously arrested for domestic violence in 2018 after allegedly choking his then-girlfriend, but was acquitted of the charge in 2019.

There are even videos on her Instagram page showing Westbrook getting some in-the-ring training from Charlo, who is seen instructing her by using training paddles.
And in 2019, Westbrook wrote a gushing Instagram message to Charlo on his birthday.
‘Happy birthday King,’ she wrote. ‘Our protector, provider & Champion. Thank you for being a blessing to Colbie, Eli & I. You remind me so much of my Father, Strong & Fearless yet Passionate & Selfless. God has so much more in store for you Mel, I can see the overflow starting to happen. Charlo(35-2-1, 19 KOs), a former WBC light middleweight champion, is coming off his second career defeat – a unanimous decision loss to undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez.
The 33-year-old’s twin brother, WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo, was arrested in the same county last year on a similar charge of assaulting a family or household member. Jermall had also been previously accused of felony robbery but had been cleared of those charges.
