Boxing fans suggest ‘boycotting’ Fury vs Chisora as they want Joshua showdown

Boxing fans have suggest "boycotting" the bout between Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora as they wanted an Anthony Joshua showdown instead.

It was confirmed on Thursday morning the Gypsy King will defend his WBC heavyweight title in a trilogy fight with Chisora at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on December 3. Fury had originally been in talks to face Joshua in Cardiff on the same date, with the latter accepting the initial proposal, before the fight was declared off when contracts were not signed before Fury's deadline.

However, fans remain keen to see the two meet in the ring and have reacted angrily to the news Fury will be facing Del Boy for a third time.

“Boycott this fight," tweeted one boxing fan. "What a joke. It took three weeks on from calling off the Joshua fight to announce this which proves Fury ducked Joshua imo.”

Another added: “A fight nobody wants to see. Shame it couldn’t get done with Joshua.” A third wrote: “I booked it off work for Fury vs Joshua. I’m not watching this s***.”

One boxing fan also tweeted: “I’m not a boxing nut, but I will pay for the big fights. Shame on Fury and Joshua for denying us one. I certainly shan’t be paying for rehashed c*** like #FuryChisora.”

Meanwhile, another commented: “People should actually boycott this fight tbh. It’s boring. Fury should have made the Joshua fight happen. A true champion would have.”

Fury first fought Chisora back in 2011, winning via unanimous decision to hand his opponent his first professional defeat and claim the British and Commonwealth titles.

The pair met for a second time three years later, with Fury winning again when Chisora was retired by his corner at the end of the 10th round. On this occasion he won the vacant British title as well as the European and WBO International belts.

Fury had initially retired in the ring after beating Dillian Whyte in April, before calling out both Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk on social media after their rematch in August.

Joshua emerged as the fans' favourite to fight the unbeaten Fury after Usyk revealed he did not want to return to the ring until 2023.
