Anthony Joshua has been fired a fierce warning by fellow Englishman Amir Khan, after the retired star gave an insight into Oleksandr Usyk’s training camp. Joshua takes on Usyk in a rematch of their clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September of last year.

The bout on home soil was an evening to forget for AJ as he fell to defeat on points, handing over his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO titles to his Ukrainian rival. Joshua now has the chance to win his former titles back though, when he takes on Usyk on Saturday evening.

Whilst the Englishman will be gunning to inflict revenge, English compatriote Khan has revealed that the defending champion is in no mood to hand his heavyweight crowns over after going through a rigorous regime in preparation. Khan himself saw Usyk first hand in his camp in Dubai, and admitted the Ukrainian looks ‘tremendous’ after bulking up.

Per Sky Sports he said: “He put on an extra 15kgs and looked tremendous… After seeing him work out, he impressed me. Usyk looked in great shape. He said he’s focused and ready and is very confident.”

Giving his prediction on the fight, Khan added: “[It is] hard to say, 50-50 who wins.” Despite the warnings of a bulked up Usyk, rival Joshua seemingly is not fazed by his opponent’s size increase and believes he has only done it to ‘absorb more punishment’.

AJ told Sky Sports: “Yeah, definitely, yeah [Usyk is bigger]. But bulking up it’s probably to help you absorb more punishment sometimes. If you’re a puncher, punchers aren’t made, they’re born, well that’s what they say in boxing so lifting weights and all that sort of stuff doesn’t make you a stronger puncher, but it may help you absorb more punishment.

“But I can’t speak on what his game plan is or why he’s done it, they know why, and I want it to work for him because I want a good fight, I want to put on a good show. So, I want it to work for him.” Former fighter Carl Froch also had his say on Usyk’s weight gain when speaking exclusively to Express Sport.

Froch said: “Possibly he might be thinking that if ‘I put some weight on that my punch is going to have a little bit more impact’ but it’s the fast punches that hurt more and the timing of the punch because it’s not always the weight.”
