Andy Ruiz wins on boxing comeback – but Chris Arreola fumes over scorecards

Andy Ruiz Jr picked up a win on his long-awaited boxing return over the weekend – but opponent Chris Arreola was left seething with the judges’ scorecards.

Ruiz, who was making his first outing since a rematch defeat against Anthony Joshua back in December 2019, was knocked down early into his ring return on Saturday night.

The Mexican-American hit the canvas in the second round of his clash with Arreola, who found success with a huge overhand right which forced his rival down to one knee.

However, Ruiz climbed back to his feet and soon took control of proceedings, steering clear of danger and picking up a unanimous-decision win.

The judges deemed him the victor with two scores of 118-109 and one of 117-110, which sparked a furious reaction from Arreola.

In his post-fight interview with FOX Sports, the American said: “I respect the judges, but I always said that beauty’s in the eye of the beholder, and they like a butterface. Everything’s pretty but their face.

“Honestly man, did he win? Fine. But don’t tell me you’re only gonna give me two or three rounds. F*** that.

“I’m gonna be like Dr Dre. Y’all can suck my motherf****** d***.”

Arreola then produced a similar outburst in his post-fight press conference, adding: “There were a lot of punches but he was hitting my gloves. He never hurt me or put me in danger, not once. It’s really rejecting when I don’t get any respect from the judges when I’ve been putting so much f****** time, and these f****** rape me and don’t even kiss me.
