Vlogger ‘stops’ MMA star but lets fight carry on before being submitted

Given the amount of social media influencers turning to combat sports these days, accusations of match fixing aren't exactly a shock.

Even the likes of Jake Paul, who has thrown himself into boxing and is probably a lot better at it than most people give him credit for, has been tarred with the 'cheater' brush for years.

But while the Problem Child has every reason to be irked by such allegations, the same can't be said of Russian vlogger Evgeny Ershov, who took part in a rather shady-looking contest with MMA star Aleksander Emelianenko the other day.

Ershov, who looked roughly half the size of his heavyweight opponent, initially won their exhibition bout via TKO after the referee stepped in to stop the fight when Emelianenko appeared unable (or unwilling) to protect himself from the social media star's punches.

But rather than celebrate beating a famous fighter with 28 wins from 38 professional bouts, Ershov told the ref to let the contest continue, which, throwing safety to the wind, he did.

Seconds later, Emelianenko caught Ershov in a Kimura lock following a takedown and the vlogger immediately tapped out. Needlessly, fans on social media weren't having any of it.

"This has 'fixed' written all over it," one fan tweeted in response to a clip of the fight's finish. Another wrote: "Definitely bet on the other guy that vlogger haha."

A third joked: "Seems legit," while a fourth fumed: "This has got to be the worst example of match fixing I've ever seen."

Another fan said the incident "summed up everything wrong with combat sports," writing: "This is what boxing and MMA are going to turn into if we keep letting social media stars pay for fixed fights like this."
