UFC fighter who missed weight does ‘Conor McGregor walk’ after sickening win

A UFC fighter who missed weight did the "Conor McGregor walk" after pulling off a sickening submission win on Saturday night.

Irina Alekseeva made her debut for the promotion at UFC Vegas 72, defeating Stephanie Egger via a first round kneebar submission, becoming only the fourth female fighter in UFC history to finish a fight by that method. Her victory came after she embarrassingly missed weight on Friday, stepping on the scales four pounds over the bantamweight limit.

As a result, her bout with Egger took place at a 140lbs catchweight, with Alekseeva also forfeiting 30% of her fight purse as punishment.

That did not stop her celebrating her victory, though, as the Russian got to her feet to perform a flip before strutting around the Octagon.

Alekseeva. who was fighting for the first time in 18 months, waved her arms by her side as she imitated former two-weight world champion McGregor's iconic celebratory strut. She had also caught the eye with her antics at the weigh-in.

Despite missing weight, Alekseeva was seen flexing and shadow boxing on the scales as she posed for the cameras during Friday's weigh-ins.

Speaking through an interpreter during her post-fight interview, she reflected on her win by explaining: "I didn’t care if she was going to try to beat the crap out of me, I knew I was going to keep pushing forward. My will was stronger than hers and I knew there was nothing she could do to beat me."

Unfortunately, though, Alekseeva missed out on a performance bonus for her victory over Egger. Instead, Song Yadong, Caio Borralho, Rodolfo Vieira and Marcus McGhee were awarded $50,000 performance of the night bonuses by the UFC.

The 32-year-old, nicknamed the "Russian Ronda", has now moved to 5-1 as a professional mixed martial artist by winning in her UFC debut. She had previously competed in Bellator, with her last bout seeing her defeat Stephanie Page at Bellator 269 in October 2021.
