UFC Interim Featherweight Yair Rodriguez finally has his chance to get his hands on the gold when he takes on the undisputed champion Alexander Volkanovski on Saturday night.
The Australian goes in as favourite for the bout – but he would be unwise to write off Rodriguez. The Mexican is one of the most unpredictable fighters the octagon has ever seen, and the proof is in his 2018 knockout against the Korean Zombie – real name Jung Chan-sung.
Rodriguez, with just seconds left in the bout, was seemingly on the defence as the Korean Zombie unleashed a barrage of firsts. However, when ducking, Rodriguez flung an elbow skywards.
Amazingly, the Mexican connected with his opponent – knocking him out before he even hit the ground. The strike was later named the 2018 knockout of the year – and it's widely considered one of the greatest ever.

Speaking about the knockout: "No one really taught me it, but it’s something I saw ‘Cowboy’ doing in the past. And I kept practising it.
"When I was preparing at ‘Cowboy’s’ ranch, we were preparing for the spinning back elbows because we knew he would open up a lot with his punches because he always comes with hooks and hooks and hooks.

"I knew if I could make him come my way and go under him, with a kick, flying knee or punch threw the middle, I knew something was going to be there. So at the last second, everything was perfect, the moment was perfect."
Rodriguez is undefeated in his last two bouts, and he picked up the interim title in his last clash with Josh Emmett.
