Mixed martial arts fans will be treated to a blockbuster double header tonight as Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev battle it out for the UFC lightweight title while Aljamain Sterling defends his UFC bantamweight crown against TJ Dillashaw.

Oliveira (33-8) – the essential champion in recess – had his 155lb belt stripped after missing weight by 0.5lb against Justin Gaethje in his last fight. He will now have the opportunity to reclaim the coveted strap against fast-rising contender Makhachev (22-1) who has won ten straight with recent wins over Thiago Moises, Dan Hooker, and Bobby Green.

Here, Express Sport gives you everything you need to know about the upcoming event.

Quotes

Oliveira: “My goal is to finish him on the ground because I need to show everyone my fighting level. After that, I am ready to fight Volkanovski in Australia. I have already been to Australia once and I can do it again. This will be a good fight. When a champion from one division fights a champion from another division, it’s a great fight and very interesting for the fans.

“I’m ready. I think everyone should believe in themselves and want the best for themselves. If we get down to earth, then Islam is essentially facing the strongest finisher in the UFC. If he wants to fight on the feet, then we’ll fight. Stand up. I’m here to make history. Victory will be mine!”
