Dustin Poirier waiting to hear from Conor McGregor’s management over trilogy

Dustin Poirier has refused to rule out a third bout against Conor McGregor later this year.

The lightweight powerhouse could insist that he wants another shot at Khabib Nurmagomedov’s belt following his stunning victory at UFC 257, but that hasn’t been the case.

Immediately after his victory he suggested that a final bout to complete the trilogy could work for both parties, despite there being no title on the line.

In addition, Poirier has now suggested that two other lightweights should get their shot at the undefeated Khabib first, which would give him time to complete another bout in 2021.

In suggesting that Michael Chandler should fight Charles Oliveira, he opened the door for McGregor.

He told MMA Junkie this week: “I want to be the world champion, and Charles is a guy that’s paid his dues.

“He’s earned where he’s at, no doubt about it. Let him and Chandler fight for the belt.

"If they want Chandler in there for the title, and he’s calling for the title, let them fight for the belt. I’ll take a step back and just watch.”

When asked about another rematch with the Irishman, he added: “I don’t know what they’re saying behind closed doors.

"And I haven’t been reached out yet by the UFC or by Conor’s management about the trilogy fight.

"So I’m not sure what’s going to happen. I haven’t been reached out to the UFC about anything.”

Dustin’s wife Jolie has been in the public eye following her display of emotion following the UFC 257 main event, and she even went to see McGregor just minutes after his defeat.

Conor made a donation of $500,000 (£364k) to the Poirier’s Good Fight Foundation, which didn’t go unnoticed by Jolie.

Jolie said: “I just wanted to say thank you so much.”

McGregor then replied: “Congratulations tonight, he fought a great fight.”

Jolie then noted his kindness by saying: “Thank you for everything. It's going to help change a lot of people's lives.“
