Dana White struggles to separate Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane in UFC face-off

UFC chief Dana White needed security to separate heavyweight juggernauts Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane during their face off last night.

Lewis and Gane, who weigh a combined 36 stone, met last night at the UFC 265 ceremonial weigh-ins ahead of their interim title clash tonight.

Gane stepped on the scales first and received a mixture of cheers and boos from the Houston crowd.

Houston native Lewis arrived second and was greeted by an enormous cheer from his hometown crowd. The Black Beast pounded his chest and let out an enormous scream on the scale, before swiftly heading over to meet Gane face to face.

While the undefeated Gane appeared ready for a respectful face off, Lewis got in the Frenchmen’s face and seemed keen on scrapping there and then.

The former heavyweight title contender pushed Gane back several feet before UFC boss White and a handful of security guards stepped in to separate the pair.

White decided to let Gane and Lewis come head-to-head once more and this time fans were treated to a seriously intense face-off.

After a few moments they were separated once more, with Lewis telling his opponent that he only needed “one punch” to end the fight.

While Gane has just one win via knockout in his six-fight career with the UFC, Lewis has twelve, currently the most in UFC heavyweight history.

Despite this, Gane is set to enter the bout as a heavy favourite with the bookies clearly preferring his polished striking and ground game to Lewis’ absurd punching power.

If Gane defeats Lewis, he will set up a clash with current heavyweight champion and former sparring partner Francis Ngannou.

The pair trained alongside one another for a number of years at Paris-based gym MMA Factory, and while Ngannou arrived in the UFC earlier, Gane has been equally as successful since making his debut in 2019.

Ngannou has since moved on to Xtreme Couture MMA, based in Las Vegas, while Gane has remained loyal to his Parisian roots.
