Conor McGregor’s UFC suspension after leg break to expire soon and allow return
Conor McGegor’s UFC suspension is set to expire as the legendary MMA fighter eyes a return to the octagon following his horrific leg break in the summer.
‘The Notorious’ has been out of action since July after he suffered a gruesome leg break which saw him lose the trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier.
He was then handed a medical suspension by the UFC lasting until January 7, meaning he could not compete before that date unless an orthopaedic doctor cleared him.
With the suspension set to expire and McGregor well on the road to recovery, the former two-weight champion is expected to return to action as early as next summer.
Yet, even despite his rumoured comeback, there is no guarantee that McGregor’s return will be a fruitful one.
The Irishman is coming off the back of a poor run which has seen him lose three of his last four fights.
UFC president Dana White played coy when asked whether his biggest money draw would have to win a few fights before putting himself back into the title picture or whether he would get the opportunity straight away.
Speaking to ESPN, White said: “The thing I’ve been saying about him and I’ll always say about him is the guy has plenty of money, but he is still passionate about fighting.
“He’s fired up to come back and he’s out there doing everything he needs to do to get himself ready to perform again.
“He’s telling me this, and you can see it in all of his [social media] posts and the way he’s acting.
“If everything goes right with the healing of his leg, he will be back this summer. I have no idea what the landscape is going to look like by the time he comes back.”
Rumours surrounding a fourth fight with Poirier were sparked in the summer after White refused to rule out another encounter.

But the UFC boss has now backtracked on the fight while offering the prospect of a highly-anticipated trilogy clash with Nate Diaz, with the American having one last fight left on his UFC contract.
He said: “Poirier could be retired by the time McGregor comes back. I don’t know [if McGrgegor will fight for the title right away].
“[Diaz’s] trilogy fight with McGregor is always there. That fight could happen. We could make that fight.”
