Conor McGregor ‘would choose jail’ rather than fight UFC rival Islam Makhachev
Conor McGregor has been warned that prison would be a better option than a potential UFC bout with Islam Makhachev.
McGregor, 33, has been sidelined ever since losing his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier in July, during which the Irishman sustained a broken leg.
Rumours have been rife as to who he'll face on his return, with a fourth bout with Poirier or a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz thought to be among the most likely options.
YouTuber Jake Paul has also been goading 'Notorious' over a potential boxing bout, while kickboxing star Superbon Banchamek wants to face him in a mixed-rules affair.
McGregor has two fights remaining on his current UFC contract so is unlikely to be switching codes in the immediate future – and has been warned about pursuing a fight with Russian lightweight star Makhachev.
Russian star Makhachev is currently fifth in the lightweight rankings, four places above McGregor, following his win over Thiago Moses.
And now his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, has sent a grave warning.
"At the end of the day, all these guys are going to fight each other," he told MMA Junkie.
Who should Conor McGregor fight next? Let us know in the comments section.
"If Justin Gaethje wins, he's gonna fight for the title, if Conor McGregor wants to get one more a**-whooping from the Dagestani mafia, we can give it to him, you know."
Adelaziz was referring to McGregor's infamous defeat against another resident of Dagestan, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who was dominant in scoring a fourth-round submission win over his bitter rival back in 2018.
Adelaziz also manages Khabib, and only this week was involved in an unsavoury Twitter spat with Mcgregor, which included the latter telling the Egyptian "When you die I celebrate."
He also taunted Russian people by posting a screenshot of a google search asking about inbreeding in Dagestan.
Adelaziz though, suggested Mcgregor's derisory words masked his fear of facing his client.
"Listen, at the the end of the day he's still talking, he still insulted people, assaulted people. Still going to jail but listen, being locked in jail or being locked with Islam Makhachev? I think he would choose jail," he added.
