Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier: UFC 257 UK start time, TV channel, and live stream

Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier: Dana White gives update

Conor McGregor returns to the Octagon for the first time in a year this weekend, as he faces Dustin Poirier at UFC 257. The pair last fought back in 2014, with McGregor winning the clash inside two minutes.

The former two-division champion faces Poirier, who has come back with an excellent record since his first defeat to McGregor, seven years ago.

Since then, Poirier has lost just two fights out of 12; one of which was against champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The US fighter most recently beat Dan Hooker in June 2020, and is looking to build on the recent success.

McGregor is also looking to continue as he left off, however, after beating Donald Cerrone inside 40 seconds at UFC 246, one year ago.

The winner of the fight may be handed a lightweight title shot, although there’s still doubt over whether Nurmagomedov would take part.

The reigning champion retired in October, after beating Justin Gaethje, in what was his third consecutive title defence.

After the fight, he revealed that he promised his mother that the clash with Gaethje would be his last.

Nurmagomedov has won all 29 of his fights, including a grudge match against McGregor.

What’s been said?

McGregor said: “I like Dustin. I think he’s a good fighter. He’s even a great fighter.

“But great is still levels below me. I’ll knock Dustin out inside 60 seconds.

Poirier told This Past Weekend: “This isn’t about payback. This isn’t a revenge fight for me. Of course those things are great.

“I go out there and beat him, those are all part of this storyline, [they’re] things I’m going to think about and be happy with, but that’s not the driving force of each day.”
