World No.1 Barty pulls out of doubles

Ashleigh Barty has withdrawn from her Australian Open doubles commitments at Melbourne Park.

The French Open winner took to the court with a heavily taped thigh for her second round singles win over Daria Gavrilova on Thursday.

Barty was partnered with American Jennifer Brady but the duo won’t play their third round match against Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka.

“It’s not a very subtle tape job,” she said after beating Gavrilova. “You often see it on a lot of the girls. The guys can hide it beneath their shorts a little bit better.

“It’s just a little bit of support. I played a lot of matches in the last 10 days after not playing for 12 months. It’s more of an assistance than anything else.”
