Emma Raducanu has been urged to follow the advice of Andy Murray after her 2022 season was plagued by injuries. After her sensational win at the 2021 US Open, where Raducanu became the first qualifier in history to win a Grand Slam event, the 20-year-old has struggled to replicate her form in New York, failing to reach the third round of any of the four major tournaments this year.

She wasn’t helped by a string of niggling injuries, and she was forced to end her 2022 campaign early after withdrawing from the Billie Jean King Cup. And since parting ways with Andrew Richardson after her own fairytale of New York, Raducanu has also not been able to settle on a long-term coach.

Her partnership with the highly regarded German mentor Torben Beltz only lasted five months, before a trial period with Russia’s Dmitry Tursunov. However, the pair failed to agree terms on an extended deal.

In a bid to improve her physical prowess, she has also recently been working with fitness coach Jez Green, who was previously employed by three-time Slam winner Murray. And the Scot urged her to take on the guru full time, saying: “Trying to improve the physical side and avoid the niggles and injuries, and the best way to do that is to get stronger and have someone around you more consistently.”

And Express Sport readers seem to agree with Murray’s sentiments, after 4,593 readers responded to a poll asking if Raducanu should take his advice. An overwhelming 76% of fans answered that she should indeed employ Green on a full-time basis.

That left just 24% believing Raducanu should look elsewhere. But Green’s experience, having worked on both the ATP and WTA Tours for more than 20 years, will surely tempt Raducanu to try and strike a long term deal.

The “tennis conditioner” has a proven track record, having also worked with Alexander Zverev. Green was credited for compiling a strength and conditioning program for Zverev, which saw the German put on what he says was “10kg of muscle” in their first three years working together.

Raducanu has retired from four matches alone this year. Last month, she withdrew from the Transylvania Open with what proved a season ending wrist injury.
