Novak Djokovic called ‘a monster’ after Wimbledon star caught eating banana skin

Carlos Alcaraz wins Wimbledon men’s singles title

Wimbledon fans claimed to see Novak Djokovic bizarrely eating the skin of a banana during his final defeat to Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday. His reign of dominance was brought to an end in SW19, but eagle-eyed BBC viewers spotted something on the broadcast that caused them to ask questions of the seven-time champion.

Many took to social media to voice their concerns over the Serb appearing to eat the skin of the banana while he was taking a bite out of the fruit in a bid to recharge during the thrilling five-setter. Bananas are known to provide a valuable source of carbohydrates and potassium, but rarely does the rind get eaten with the inside of the elongated fruit once peeled.

Those watching BBC quickly turned to social media to get clarification from others that they had indeed witnessed Djokovic eat the banana peel as they were left flabbergasted. “Djokovic just ate a banana without peeling it the f****** monster,” @sarm0161 tweeted as their view was echoed by many.

While some felt that the 36-year-old deserved to be beaten by Alcaraz for his unorthodox eating technique. On Twitter, @panoparker wrote: “Sorry but Djokovic deserves to lose purely for the way he ate that banana #WimbledonFinal.”

While one Wimbledon watcher felt that it was the reason Djokovic suffered a 6-1, 6-7 (8-6), 1-6, 6-3, 4-6 defeat to Alcaraz as he was unable to win his fifth consecutive SW19 title. “Novak Djokovic lost because he ate the he banana peel,” @Willcox_Matty said. “Who does that man.”

Djokovic was accused of being “not human” thanks to the banana peel and losing “his damn mind” having been unable to get the better of Alcaraz. @MannyBLFC said: “Djokovic didn’t even peel the sides of the skin down before taking a bite of that banana smh, he’s not human.” While @utd_Lewis added: “Djokovic eating the skin of the banana, he’s lost his damn mind out there.”
