Nadal will earn millions in retirement due to hotels and deal with Ronaldo

Rafael Nadal set for 2024 farewell after pulling out of French Open

Rafael Nadal is set to earn millions even after his tennis retirement due to his range of business ventures, including hotels and restaurants. The Spaniard announced in May that he is expecting to retire from the sport in 2024, but it seems he will have no trouble earning money once his trophy-laden career is over.

Nadal has always seemed interested in business and has an array of ventures off the court. Back in 2013, the 36-year-old supposedly built and renovated two luxury hotels on the Mexican island of Cozumel.

The family of Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui reportedly partnered with Nadal for the venture. The 22-time Grand Slam champion owns other properties in Majorca and there are supposedly other plans in progress.

Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo is another famous business partner. Nadal co-owns a restaurant chain named TATEL alongside the Manchester United and Real Madrid icon, as well as the singer Enrique Iglesias. TATEL has branches in Madrid, Ibiza, Miami and Beverly Hills.

According to Forbes, Nadal can earn more than £863,000 (€1million) for an appearance at an official event. With other income from sponsorships, his perfume range, and his tennis academy, Nadal is set for a lucrative future outside of tennis.

It comes as the 14-time French Open winner pulled out of Roland Garros. Nadal admitted that 2024 could be his final year in the sport.

He said: “I didn’t make the decision, my body made the decision. To play Roland Garros is impossible. Next year will probably be my last year. That is my idea. If I keep going now I won’t be able to make it happen.”

Long-term rival Novak Djokovic – for whom a victory in Paris would see him jump ahead of Nadal as the most decorated Grand Slam winner of all-time – was emotional when he heard that Nadal could bow out.

Djokovic said: “I have to say that he’s my biggest rival. When he announced that he’s going to have his last season of [his] career, I felt part of me is leaving with him too. I feel that he was one of the most impactful people that I have ever had in my career, the growth of my career and me as a player.”

However, the Serb added: “Honestly, I don’t miss him being in the draw. I don’t like seeing him in the draw of Roland Garros. I have had not so much success against him in our head-to-head record in Roland Garros.”
