Inside Emma Raducanu’s US Open celebrations at party that went on ‘until 4.45am’

Having just pulled off an incredible Grand Slam triumph in the 'city that never sleeps', Emma Raducanu could be forgiven for not settling for an early night last Saturday.

At 18, she's not even old enough to purchase an alcoholic drink by herself in New York, but that didn't stop the star partying to the early hours after her 6-4 6-3 win over Leylah Fernandez.

According to Tim Henman, a mentor to the British tennis sensation, she marked the occasion in style with sushi, a party in a New York hotel suite, and a jubilant rendition of Sweet Caroline with her support team.

Henman, 47, did stress that Raducanu herself didn't consume any alcohol, but that didn't stop her enjoying the festivities which lasted until around 5am.

“After Emma had done all her media commitments and photos we got a minibus back to the city," Henman told The Times.

"Someone put on Sweet Caroline and I’ve got this great video of everyone singing along to it.

“It was a very special night, and a real privilege to be invited and be there. We reminisced and talked about everything that has happened in the past few weeks.

"I don’t think I left until 4.45am. It was such a happy occasion and everyone really enjoyed themselves.”

Raducanu has certainly been loving life since her historic win at Flushing Meadows, cramming in a sightseeing tour of New York where she was pleasantly surprised to come across a Nike billboard of herself.

"By no means thought I might see this, coolest factor," she wrote on Instagram.

On Monday night, she attended the glamorous Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, known as the Oscars of fashion and hosted by Dame Anna Wintour.

However, former British No 1 Henman, who reached six Grand Slam semi-finals – including one at the US Open in 2004 – said it will take time for the teenager to understand the scale of her achievement.

“It’s going to take a long time for the victory, I think, to sink in, for her to able to understand what she has achieved," he said.

“She’s been overcoming big hurdles day after day. And then what’s been astonishing is how she’s taken it in her stride.”

Raducanu has made no secret of her admiration for Henman, who was frequently seen offering her advice during the tournament.
