Emma Raducanu stole the hearts of the world after winning the US Open at the first time of asking aged just 18. But after dropping out of the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic tournament which is due to start next week, fans will be understandably keen to learn when and where her next tournament is. Express Sport looks at when the teenager could return to the court.

Raducanu bamboozled the sporting world after becoming the first tennis player of all time, male or female, to win a Grand Slam as a qualifier.

Jumping from 150th to 22nd in the world rankings as a result, there is most certainly a new superstar in the making in Raducanu.

Winning every set throughout the tournament, the Brit won 18 consecutive sets before dismantling Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 6-3 to take home an unprecedented title.

Fans have jumped on the bandwagon to see how much she can repeat her successes at other events, and many were excited to see her compete in Chicago after her unrivalled success.

But after dropping out of the tournament in Illinois, it appears she may have to wait just a couple more weeks before deciding where to play.

The BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells seems to be the most appropriate tournament for Raducanu to play next though it is unclear at present whether or not she will indeed enter that event.

She is in the qualifying draw but could still drop out before then. It is seen as likely that she will play.

The tournament starts on October 4, giving Raducanu two weeks to prepare herself to enter her next match if she does play at Indian Wells.

Her opponent obviously remains unknown for now but she will be forced to go through qualifying for the WTA 1000 event because she was ranked world No 150 before the US Open which was when the entry list was closed. She cannot be pushed up so that she automatically enters the main draw.

Indian Wells is one of the biggest non-Grand Slam events of the season and represents a chance for Raducanu to show that her US Open victory was not a one-off.

Raducanu has become the latest major British tennis sensation and will hope to follow in the footsteps of Andy Murray after her US Open exploits by winning multiple Slams.

The Scotsman became a key figure in the world tennis scene, especially after winning Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016.

But the Stirling-born athlete says that despite holding an increased status in the game, he won’t ‘wade in’ and give Raducanu advice unless she asks for it.

“I never really liked it when all of the ex-British tennis players were always wading in after every win and loss about what you should be doing, what you shouldn’t be doing, and a lot of them also giving advice when you haven’t asked for it as well,” Murray said.

“I found it incredibly irritating and still do today. I don’t want to be that person.

“What Emma has achieved is incredible and I hope she goes on to do more amazing things in the sport, and if she ever wants to talk, or her family, obviously I would always be there on the end of the phone.

“But I don’t want to be that guy after every loss or win just wading in and giving my opinion on what she should or shouldn’t be doing differently, because it’s not helpful.”
