Emma Raducanu issued social media advice by Coca Gauff amid stratospheric rise
American tennis sensation Coco Gauff has issued some social media advice to Emma Raducanu, following her recent meteoric rise after her remarkable US Open win.
Raducanu rose to fame last month after becoming the first qualifier to win the US Open title, as the 18-year-old went on a 10-match unbeaten run – without dropping a set – to become the first British female major champion since 1977.
Following her win the teenager became a household name overnight and even attended the prestigious Met Gala in New York alongside the likes of Justin Bieber and Rhianna, and fellow Tennis stars Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams.
Like Raducanu, Gauff also stormed into the public eye at an early age as she reached the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2019 when she was just 15-years-old, before becoming the current youngest player in the world’s top 100 players.
Following her experiences Gauff has since warned the 18-year-old to take breaks from her phone, and limit the time she spends on social media.
When talking about offering advice the American said: “I would say the best thing I would give her [Raducanu], which I’m sure she’s probably heard of, is just make sure you set time aside from the phone.”
The US Open champion has seen her social media following sky rocket in the weeks following her Grand Slam win, especially on the platforms Instagram and Twitter, which she is often active on.
Can Raducanu follow up her US Open win at Indian Wells? Let us know in the comments section below.
Before Raducanu’s triumph in New York her Instagram following stood at 400,000 – mainly down to her breakthrough performance at Wimbledon two months earlier – however the current total now stands at a whopping two million.
Whilst Gauff revealed that the follows, likes and retweets that flood in are initially exciting, she admitted that at times it can become a little overwhelming hence her warning to her fellow teenage sensation.
She admitted: “It is exciting when you [are] getting all the retweets and the follows and all of that, but it can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. At least with my experience with it.
“I think that and that’s probably what I would have wished I would have known then – not to focus on social media.”
The 17-year-old also went on to say that this was the advice she received when first rising to fame, and was happy to pass it on.
The American added: “That’s the same advice that I was given, so I just pass that along. It’s not my own advice.”
The heavy focus on Raducanu will no doubt resume this week as she heads to Indian Wells for her first outing since the US Open triumph, where the Brit will take on Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round after receiving a bye in the first.
