Emma Raducanu has been urged to surround herself with the right people by World No 4 Iga Swiatek. The Brit recently won the US Open in September, making history in the process. Yet she was unable to build on that victory after being beaten by Aliaksandra Sasnovich at Indian Wells on Friday.
Raducanu went into the match with many expecting her to win.
But the 18-year-old was outplayed by her Belarusian opponent, who triumphed 6-2, 6-4.
Raducanu recently split with her coach Andrew Richardson, believing she needed someone who can help her stay at the top of her game.
And now, Swiatek has urged her to surround herself with the right people who won’t make her do things for the sake of fame and publicity – while calling on Leylah Fernandez to do the same.
“Well I would say balancing all the things you have to do on-court and all the things that [you’ve] been doing for the past years with all that new stuff,” Swiatek explained.

“Because it can overwhelm [you] at the beginning.
“It was good for me that Roland Garros was the last tournament of the season. I know that [Fernandez and Raducanu] probably have one or two more.
“Then they’re going to have a break and they’re going to have time to reflect on [their success].
“Also having the people around you who won’t be pushing you to do more because of public relations or publicity.
“Just you know maybe staying calm a little bit and waiting for how you will react to all of that.”
Raducanu said after the defeat that she’d cut herself some slack.
“I mean, there’s going to be disappointment after any loss,” the 18-year-old admitted.
“I didn’t go in there putting any pressure on myself because in my mind I’m so inexperienced that all these, I’m just taking it all in.
“I mean, you’re going to have highs and you’re always going to have some lows where you’re disappointed with how you performed.
“Aliaksandra played an extremely great match.
“She has played; you could tell she’s more experienced than me. She went out there and executed her game plan better than I did.
“She, of course, deserved to win that.
“I think it’s going to take me time to adjust really to what’s going on. I mean, I’m still so new to everything.
“Like the experiences that I’m going through right now, even though I might not feel 100 per cent amazing right now, I know they’re for the greater good.
“For the bigger picture, I’ll be thanking this moment.
“So, yeah, that’s the lesson I think, that you can easily get sucked into being so focused on the result and getting disappointed.
“I mean, I’m 18 years old. I need to cut myself some slack, so yeah.”
Sasnovich is next in action on Sunday, with Simona Halep her next opponent.
