Emma Raducanu is proving to be Britain’s next superstar after another remarkable win over Sorana Cirstea in the third round at Wimbledon. The 18-year-old entered Wimbledon as a wildcard having impressed at junior level.
A first-round victory over Vitalia Diatchenko caught the eyes of plenty, but it was her win in the second-round where fans soon begun to take notice.
Marketa Vondrousova was expected to be a challenge too far for the British teenager with the 22-year-old reaching the French Open final back in 2019.
But Raducanu showed maturity beyond her years as she raced into the third round in little over an hour.
Her victory over Vondrousova was rewarded with her first apperance on Court One at Wimbledon.
A huge stage for anybody on tour and one that has often proved too overwhelming for some.
Raducanu cut a calm and collected figure though as she walked out onto court with headphones in her ears.
She lost her serve early in the first set with some nerves clearly on show.
But Raducanu soon found her footing as she immediately broke back before taking the next five games to win the opening set.
No nerves were on show in the second set either as three more consecutive games followed to put her in the driving seat for the biggest win of her young career.
