Carlos Alcaraz breaks silence on Wimbledon spygate after dad records Djokovic
Carlos Alcaraz has admitted that it is “probably true” that his father filmed Novak Djokovic training earlier this week after the Serbian complained about not receiving enough privacy during his training sessions. Serbian media reported this week that Alcaraz’s father had been ‘spying’ on Djokovic’s training sessions at Wimbledon.
The Aorangi practice courts at Wimbledon are in close proximity and the better-known players often train in close proximity on the ‘show courts’ so that fans are able to watch them. At one stage earlier this week, Alcaraz and Djokovic were both on courts alongside each other practicing for their respective matches.
But the Serbian tennis icon was unhappy at learning of Alcaraz’s father allegedly filming the training session. Djokovic called for “more privacy” after the story was reported in Serbian media, adding: “Then it gives me more opportunities to try some things, to communicate more clearly with my team.
“The fact is that you are not completely relaxed in training. You know your rivals are there, you know everyone is looking over your shoulder at what’s going on, what you’re working on. Every shot is measured, evaluated and assessed.”
Now Alcaraz has broken his silence on the reports following his quarter-final win over Holger Rune. The Spaniard was initially confused by the question in his press conference, before appearing to brush off the allegations as nothing serious.
“Probably it is true,” Alcaraz said. “My father is a huge fan of tennis and he doesn’t only watch my matches.
“I think he gets into the club at 10am and leaves at 11pm watching matches and practice and being able to watch Djokovic in real life it is probably true he was filming the sessions.

And Alcaraz appeared to hit back at any suggestion his father’s filming would give him an edge further down the line. “I don’t think so,” he said when asked whether it gave him a ‘competitive advantage’.
“I have a lot of videos from Djokovic on every platform. I think it’s not an advantage for me.”
