Dani Carvajal will face several weeks on the side-lines as Real Madrid have confirmed the extent of the injury he picked up against Valencia on Sunday.

The full-back has been added to Madrid’s ever growing list of injuries with the club revealing he has been ‘diagnosed with a muscle injury in his right thigh affecting the tendon.’

Carvajal will now join the wounded Eden Hazard, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Rodrygo, Federico Valverde and Eder Militao as Los Blancos injury fears continue with their rivals Atletico in the driving seat for the LaLiga title.

Real Madrid released the following statement saying: ‘Following tests carried out on our player, Dani Carvajal, by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in his right thigh affecting the tendon.

‘His recovery will continue to be assessed.’

Carvajal lasted just 28 minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu after being struck by the ball just moments before.

Subsequently, the full-back was forced off the pitch and replaced by the returning Lucas Vazquez.

Zinedine Zidane shared his condolences for Carvajal before admitting that he ‘does not understand’ injury crisis at Real Madrid.

He said: ‘I’m sorry for Carva. He played 25 minutes very well and I’m upset because he’s very important to us.

‘But I can’t explain the reasoning [behind the injury problems] to you. As a coach, having injuries is the worst. They’ve come back to hurt us again.

‘I only hope that [Carvajal’s injury] is a small one. We’ll see what the injury is and for how long he’ll be out for.’

As it stands, Real Madrid have put no timeline on the rehabilitation process for Carvajal, but he is expected to be missing for at least a month.

Carvajal will not only miss their LaLiga clash with Real Valladolid on Saturday, but also Madrid’s first leg of a Champions League last-16 clash with Atalanta.

Zidane will be forced to prepare for their derby showdown against Atletico Madrid on March 7 without Carvajal.
