Young Newcastle fan warms hearts as touching footage with Steve Bruce emerges

The future looks uncertain for Steve Bruce following Newcastle's 3-2 defeat to Tottenham, but the beleaguered boss still has one young fan in his corner.

Footage emerged after the game of Bruce, 60, sharing a touching moment with a boy who had waited behind to get his autograph.

It marked a stark contrast to scenes during the match, as supporters voiced their discontent at the under-fire manager.

Newcastle fans chanted: "We want Brucey out, say we want Brucey out," and "You're getting sacked in the morning" with increasing fervour as the game wore on and a positive result edged further and further out of reach.

Bruce cut a dejected figure both on the touchline and in his post-match interview, but that didn't stop him from being a gentleman after the match.

With St. James' Park deserted and bathed in the glare of the floodlights, one young supporter approached the former Hull City and Birmingham man beside the dugouts.

Bruce duly obliged his request for an autograph, scribbling on a piece of paper while muttering a few words to the starstruck child.

Handing the piece of paper back, Bruce then ruffled the boy's hair as they went their separate ways.

The exchange was well-received on social media, with one person writing: "I feel really really sorry for Steve Bruce."

Someone else added: "This is so bleak with the empty stadium in the background but also really sweet."

While a third person commented: "Bloke is stealing a living as Prem manager but you have to feel for him since the takeover."

"Steve Bruce is really a good man, who stuck with a job that has made him an unwarranted villain," opined another Twitter user.

Newcastle's latest defeat is likely to spell the end of Bruce's time in charge at St. James' Park.

When asked about his future after the match, he replied: "That's for other people to decide.

"If I was believing everything I saw last week, I might not have been here today.

"My job is to get a few results. Unfortunately this year, if you're a manager in the Premier League and you haven't won in seven or eight, you come under pressure.

"It's part of the deal of being in the Premier League. It's a big league for big boys and I'll crack on until I hear otherwise."
