Spain's World Cup winning captain Olga Carmona has paid a touching tribute to her dad – who she discovered had died after the final.
Carmona, who plays her club football for Real Madrid, scored the only goal of the game against England on Sunday (August 20) to fire her nation to their first-ever Women's World Cup triumph.
Hours later, it was announced the left-back's father had passed away, and she'd only found out about it post-match. Taking to social media later in the day, Carmona addressed the tragic news.
She posted: "And without knowing it, I had my star before the game started. I know that you have given me the strength to achieve something unique.

"I know that you have been watching me tonight and that you are proud of me. Rest in peace dad."
Carmona was referencing the gold star which a World Cup winning nation adds to their kits above their crest to represent each time they've lifted the trophy.
It was the Royal Spanish Football Federation who first made the news public. Their statement read: "The RFEF deeply regrets to report the death of Olga Carmona's father.
"The soccer player learned the sad news after the World Cup final. We send our most sincere hugs to Olga and her family in a moment of deep pain. We love you, Olga, you are the history of Spanish football."
Real followed suit with a statement of their own, writing: "Real Madrid CF, its president and its board of directors deeply regret the death of the father of our player Olga Carmona.
"Real Madrid wants to express its condolences and her affection for Olga, her relatives and all her loved ones. Rest in peace."
Spanish media outlet Relevo claimed Carmona's family and friends decided not to tell her about her dad's death before taking on the Lionesses so she was fully focused on the final.
Her mum and two brothers travelled to Sydney to support her before breaking the news to her in person. She'd also scored the winner in the 2-1 semi-final victory over Sweden, making five starts and one substitute appearance during the tournament.
