World Cup fans in stitches as Australia supporter spots himself on big screen

An Australia fan has gone viral for his hilarious reaction to seeing himself on the big screen at the World Cup.

The supporter was in the stands at the Al Janoub Stadium on Tuesday (November 22) as his nation played their first game in Qatar against France. But he clearly didn't expect to draw the attention of the cameras inside the ground, which is exactly what happened.

Mid-way through the match his face was broadcast around the world and he reacted in shock, appearing to mutter: "Jesus we're on f***ing tele."

Viewers all jumped to the same conclusion, with one tweeting: "Someone clearly rang in sick hahaha." Another wrote: "When you've called in work sick and just been put on national TV."

"Now that business trip will be hard to explain to the wife," joked one, while a similar comment echoed: "That’s the look of someone who told their partner that they were away on business."

One person posted: "They definitely weren’t supposed to be at the football." And another said: "His shock is like someone whose cover has been blown after lying about where he was going."

Hopefully the fan was just stunned to see himself and there was nothing more to it. Otherwise it will have added insult to injury for him after Australia fell to a 4-1 defeat.

They shocked the defending champions by taking the lead inside the first 10 minutes. Craig Goodwin finished off a well worked attack to spark joyous scenes amongst the Aussies.

But France flipped the game on its head in the first 45 through Adrien Rabiot and Olivier Giroud, who scored again in the second half after Kylian Mbappe had netted a third.
