Chelsea reclaimed top spot in the Women’s Super League on Sunday with a 3-2 victory at Tottenham.
Jess Carter put the Blues ahead at Brisbane Road with a header in the eighth minute, but two former Chelsea players combined to bring the home side level eight minutes later as Drew Spence set up Beth England for a tap-in.
The standout moment of the game came from Lauren James, who scored a fine solo goal after 27 minutes to restore Chelsea’s lead before Guro Reiten made it 3-1 just after the hour.
Nikola Karczewska struck after 88 minutes to make it a nervy ending for Emma Hayes’ side, but Chelsea held on for three points.
Their victory became all the more valuable later in the day when Arsenal lost ground by being held to a 0-0 draw at West Ham.

The Gunners had chances to take the lead but were fortunate their opponents were not awarded a penalty when Rafaelle Souza stood on Dagny Brynjarsdottir’s foot in the box.
Arsenal found West Ham goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold in fine form, the Australian making several good saves to frustrate the Gunners who failed to score for the first time in a year.
The result could prove costly for Jonas Eidevall’s side in the title race, as Arsenal slipped five points adrift of defending champions Chelsea with a game in hand. The Blues boast the superior goal difference.
Two goals in three minutes saw Liverpool beat relegation rivals Reading 2-0. Missy Bo Kearns opened the scoring with a low strike in the 62nd minute before Ceri Holland doubled the Reds’ lead with a finish at the back post.
Manchester City edged closer to the top three with a 2-0 victory over Leicester on Saturday thanks to second-half goals from the league’s top scorer Khadija Shaw and Chloe Kelly.
Brighton earned a vital point at Aston Villa with Julia Zigiotti Olme equalising after a Kayleigh Green own goal had put Villa ahead.
